Spring is the season that brings new energy to people, to nature, and even to the idea of travel. The days become longer, the sun warmer, and the colors of meadows and trees more vibrant. Everything around us blooms, so it's no wonder that right now we start thinking about excursions, walks, bicycles, hiking trails, and small weekend trips. After the winter dormancy, free time once again finds meaning in movement and spending time outdoors.
"Travel and change of place give the mind new strength."
Seneca

During this period, domestic tourism begins to flourish along with the vegetation. Ski resorts slowly quiet down, but hiking, cycling and walking trails, river and lake shores, springs and nature parks, all the way from Orjen to Una, awaken. Campsites and picnic areas across the country become centers of activity and enjoyment of nature, announcing the upcoming season.

What makes domestic tourism special is its authenticity. Domestic travelers have no reason to wait for the "high season", on the contrary, they are the first heralds of tourism, just as snowdrops are the harbingers of spring.
It is precisely these events and activities in our rural areas, lakes and mountains that create the foundations for the development of tourism products in smaller communities, even though it is slow, even though we are not yet aware of this fact or simply ignore how much treasure we have at our fingertips.
Is it really that far for someone from Trebinje to go to Lake Alagovac in Nevesinje? Or for someone from Banja Luka to visit the sources of the Pliva River? These mini adventures require nothing more than willpower and a little time.
However, with growing interest comes responsibility. If we love nature, let's show it with actions. Let's leave our destinations clean, leaving no plastic, paper or cigarette butts behind. Let's create a habit of respecting the space that nourishes and calms us. Who are we actually leaving our trash for if not ourselves?

Every cigarette butt thrown out of a car window, every piece of trash left uncollected after a trip, and every container left empty speaks volumes about our relationship to the place we live in.
Why would we give someone the opportunity to appreciate us for the trash we throw on the side of the road? We can do better than that. A little more conscience and collective responsibility is enough.
It may seem ironic, but as the world rapidly changes and insecurity grows, we are becoming one of the safer and more pleasant destinations. Where else can you get from the city center to a dense forest in an hour? Where can you reach and drink water from a spring with your hand, or take a nap on a bench without fear? Keep your private belongings on the table while drinking coffee?
Yes, we may not have perfect public transportation, maybe the taxi driver charges in euros, but almost everywhere you will encounter a sincere smile and a willingness to help you arrive on time and at the right moment to any attraction or location. It is precisely this warmth and sense of security that is one of the most important reasons and motives that has attracted guests for years and created value greater than expected. Regardless of the narrative that we are struggling with 35 years later.
You can find a restaurant anywhere. Sit down, order a coffee, experience a smile or indifference, pay too much or be surprised by the price.

But what distinguishes destinations is not the menu, but how much the culture of living makes them different.
The way they speak, greet, wait, drink coffee. Their adopted habits, the spirit of the place, the energy of the people.
Because in the end, it's all about the person. And us?
Well, we're good.
Maybe it's time for us to start expecting more from ourselves and to appreciate what we have, cherish nature, and be proud to be tourists in our own country.
